Hellhouse is a dark experimental pop/shoegaze band from Los Angeles, founded by Chris Spino (aka Coma Girls) as an outlet for heavy guitar sounds and extreme pedal experimentation. After a decade away from bands outside Coma Girls, Spino brought together collaborators for this new project. Following the departure of original vocalist Kai Richards, the band welcomed Hope Wright (fka Hope Riot), a self-proclaimed ex-Sonic Ranch couch girl, as their new voice.
The debut Hellhouse EP, produced by longtime Coma Girls collaborator Christian Paul Phillippi (Dies) and mastered by Joey Oaxaca, explores covert misanthropy and struggles with alcoholism. The record channels the baritone stylings of Rozz Williams and Ian Curtis while maintaining a sharp pop sensibility and expansive sonic atmosphere. Recorded live with minimal overdubs, the EP features Kai Richards and Chris Spino as songwriters, with drums by Shravan Surendran and bass by Mark Doe. With their debut release via Underflow Records in March 2025, Hellhouse is just getting started.
